Could a chance at getting $150,000 be in your pocket?
According to the Wealthy Nickel website, currency collectors in the United States are after rare $1 bills with a printing error and will pay up to $150,000 for them.
The printing error took place in 2014 and 2016.
If collectors are offering this much for a measly (but rare) $1 bill, it’s definitely worth checking anywhere you store loose change.
So, you might be wondering how this misprint escaped out into the world?
It was caught by the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing, but according to the Entrepreneur website, a few of those rare dollars were overlooked and are in circulation today.
According to Boston 25 News, 6.4 million pairs of $1 bills were accidentally printed with matching serial numbers.
“This miscommunication resulted in dollars printed with duplicate serial numbers, technically counterfeiting their currency. Typically, every bill in circulation has a unique serial number to identify it,” the Wealthy Nickel wrote.
The true value in owning a misprinted bill is pairing it with a second bill with a matching serial number, according to the Wealthy Nickle.
Now, you’re probably wondering how to find out if you’re in possession of a rare, $1 bill worth up to $150,000.
First, look for “Series 13″ which must be on the bill next to George Washington.
The bill must also have a “B” Federal Reserve seal above the serial number.
Lastly, check to see if the serial number ends with a star symbol and falls between B00000001* -B00250000* or B03200001*- B09600000*.
If all applies, you could be in luck.
