The Brevard County Sheriff's Office is investigating after an abandoned backpack with a firearm inside was found near a school.

According to deputies, the backpack and weapon were found in a vacant lot near an undisclosed school, but not on school property.

BCSO says a juvenile was arrested in relation to this incident, though the identity of the person and the charges they face are unknown at this time. The sheriff's office did not say when this incident happened and did not specify which school the weapon was found near.
